£30 a ton at roadside is normal in Lancky but a Yorkshireman recently quoted
£40-50...but then he would wouldn’t he.
I have recently been offered oak from the Ukraine at a price to compete with
the British Fuels market prices.
Sending it to Sarcozy for a margin of £10 a ton or less does not sound like
good business and with Yorkshiremen able to pay more it seems not quite

Subject: Market forces?
Now then, eyup etc.
Across the park from our premises there is a small patch of woodland, mainly
Ash with some Sycamore and Beech. It's currently being thinned by a
processor and some smallish timber is coming out. Rumour has it, and that's
rumour from the forestry sector not the pub, that this is going to France as
firewood!
Rumour further has it that this is fetching 50 quid a tonne. I dunno what
"bois de chauffage" is fetching in France but this strikes me as somewhat
bizarre, especially when there seems to be something of a firewood shortage
hereabouts.
Of course it might be wrong but I just thought some of us might be intrigued
by this snippet.
Bill.
