..stating that the anatomy of a tree's roots below the Root collar are
different to the upper portion. That's probably true for those root
parts found beneath the soil and not necessarily for the portion of
exposed 'anchor roots' that 'look' similar to main stem bark.

method known as Bridge Grafting. Note that Root Cuttings have been used
to inarch and bridge over damaged areas, girdled roots and may be worth
a shot if the tree/shrub is a highly prized individual.
