Susannah Gill gave a presentation at the last TEP conference, where she
mentioned trees and drainage called 'The Essential Role of Trees - Adapting
cities to climate change by managing high temeratures and reducing pressure
on drainage systems'. She referenced Matteo et al 2006 who 'drawing on the
results of modelling studies , advocate the creation of woodland buffers
along streams and highways with a veiw to handinlg adverse weather conditons
such as large storms, non point source pollution and flooding.' So you might
want to look at that. There was a presentation about upland planting for
flood reduction at the Arb conference 2009 (or possibly 2008) maybe the AA
has a list of speakers that you could look at.
As far as trees in the urban realm and drainage, Susannah Gill gave the
results of research so far. You may want to get in touch with her and track
down her papers.
best wishes
