That sounds the right direction as new growth will act as sap drawer and
prevent graft flooding to allow callusing, could'nt find any mention in my
acienty copy of Garner either

According to the modern nurseryman, toogood and stanley either layer or bud/graft onto a glutinosa, I would have thought with grafting r/stock will need drying in pots before grafting and keep knife sterilised Will
