1) In your definition does this kind of fungus kill the living cells in the 
process of extracting it nutrients, like a necrotroph, or do they remain 
alive, like a biotroph?, or both, like a hemibiotroph?
1) Because trees affected by G. australe (normally) don't show symptoms of 
(bark or branch) necrosis or dieback (of parts) of the crown or foliage, 
like a biotroph.
 
2) Are you saying you have evidence that G. adspersum/australe can readily 
breach the reaction zone and/or boundary zone of functional xylem and then 
colonise that wood in a tree with good vitality?
2) Not evidence on a microscopical level in a living tree (yet), but 
assuming G. australe can, because of its (partially sterile) panic fruiting 
just before or shortly after the tree dies and not being able to produce 
(completely) fertile brackets from dead wood alone.
                                        

It would seem when I ran away and went for a sulk I missed some posts, the 
above for example.
With regards to australe IME which is apparently of little use, I find it to 
be variable in its capacity, largely depending on host species and host 
vitality. there are some species of tree, with particular attention drawn to 
Aesculus hippocastinum and variants within which G australes abilities to 
penetrate reaction zones is frightening and rapid. on oak it is a different 
animal all together, see rob mc brides hobbit tree.
if ANYONE here in wants to fund academic research into this fungi and its 
capacity on living trees I have one standing dead and one living (for a 
limited timeframe) with g australe (both Aesculus) One willow also dying with 
ganoderma australe (now in panic mode) so prediction that the tree will soon 
be dead some time next year (to be confirmed) I have already amassed a 
library of other cases that illustrate its potential. I can and will find 
others as and when required, theres one on every block (slight exaggeration) 
I welcome the opportunity and resources to prove/disprove it, it would be a 
pleasure, in fact i would be in my true element as they say. if i had the 
money i would do the research and buy the tools and im working on it but its 
hard, do you know how much a decent trinocular scope costs!
education begins when doubt creeps in.
