How exotic do you want? So far within Gwydyr forest I have found Chile
pine, Nothofagus and redwoods. Tend to consider firs, larches and spruce
as normal around here.
The crocus and snowdrops are up in the garden and the daffs are just
pushing up. The house is at 300m and yes it does seem early.

Sounds nice.
I have seen snowdrops now for the last couple of weeks in the hedgerows
and neighbours gardens. The chucks trash mine. I've also started to see
crocus, which seems very early. My mum once told me that if the crocus
were out on my birthday then she thought they were early. My birthday by
the way is 28 Feb.

Perhaps Natural England should step in to make the planting of exotics
in
the countryside a criminal act, based upon an existing BAP, as in the
suppressing affect this would have on an already established
ecological
system!

Making it an offence to plant trees that might eventually suppress and
kill others is an interesting idea. I can't see how you could make it
work, but it would be nice to see the end of those badly planned and
unmanaged amenity schemes and nonsensical replacement planting
conditions.
Might put silviculture back in its rightful place on the syllabus.
