True, however you would expect the larger the diameter of the trunk,
that the structural anchoring roots would be larger too. Thus possibly
being less resistant to decay than smaller roots on smaller diameter
dead trees.

Obviously this has to take into account the original cause of
mortality, in which root decay fungi like armillaria will influence
stability. Also wind exposure, species, topography and soil type and
depth will be a factor.
