We planted it in torbay in the planting at Cliff Gardens and Rock Walk (the
latter now harshly cleared because of cliff-falls, and planted with fairly
mundane shrubs etc); but it didn't survive the winters; and that was on a
site where Sparmannia africana grew outside only occasionally being cut back
by cold. It'll take a lot more global warming to get it to grow inland in
mainland Britain, let alone in the frozen north...........

Paulownia would struggle - to grow, let alone flower - in Manchester. It
might do OK as a large leafed shrub with late annual stooling.....
Jacaranda.... I wonder if that even grows on Tresco or in Ventnor.
My real point was the wonderful art of persuasion of CAD generated visuals -
something that many local councillors imbibe and appreciate like a sweet
sherry before dinner. Preferably, Harvey's Bristol Cream I would imagine.

The illustrations look vaguely like Paulownia; off-hand I can't think of
another blue/purple flowered tree, and the others look like Black Walnut.
But my experience of Landscape Artichokes suggests they're probably just
pretty pictures Peter.
Also at this side of the Pennines Paulownia flowering that profusely is
something of a rarity, actually Paulownia is a rarity, although we've got
one and there's one outside the Co-op in Harthill that survives despite the
owner's attempt to burn through its trunk.
