You can only plant certain species within 10 metres of a main sewer.
Hazel is it if I remember correctly.

Subject: Tree planting near sewers
A new one for me, I hesitate to say, but I have just had a landscaping
DOC application that effectively offers very little new tree planting on
a development of 44 dwellings citing the document "Adoption of Sewers"
as the reason why they can't. Can anyone offer any advice please?
