I am trying to graft alder seedlings (grown over winter under lights, so 2-3 mm diameter stems) onto fruiting spurs of "adult" trees, but I can't get them to take. The woodwork looks OK, what am I doing wrong? I am told that the cultivars "aurea" and "imperialis" are often grafted by nurseries. Does anybody have any knowledge in this field or know of somebody that does?
