However, newly planted trees actively growing trees need water where
their roots are i.e. at the rootball.

Rainfall may not be enough to satisfy the demand, especially when you
think about all those well mulched newly planted trees.

Ed Gillman research indicates that mulch over the rootball inhibits
rainfall getting to the rootball.

It's a common mistake to think that rainfall is sufficient for newly
planted trees.

Of course it's a different matter when your trees under standing water!
