RE: AA website

Elton, it's difficult to please everybody all the time but there is no clique
I can assure you. There were three brand new Trustees voted onto the board
this year by the members. Me being one of them - so please bear with me, I'm
still learning.

Elton, the door to M & C is open. As I and Jon have already said, engagement
is a major AA objective for 2016. If you have ideas then bring them to the
table. I am more than happy to discuss the topic on or off forum and I will
either take them to M & C for discussion, or by all means come to a meeting
and present them yourself.

The thing is that the AA has made some real progress recently and it's trying
to keep that momentum going. Unfortunately for the reasons Jon has already
mentioned, the logo just wasn't going to carry forward a modern organisation
that is trying to engage with a wider audience in order to achieve its
charitable objectives.

If you take any emotional ties out of the equation, a logo must achieve a
number of objectives, the breadth of which can be discovered elsewhere. But
one of the most important objectives in the age of modern media is that a
logo must be versatile. The old logo was not versatile - it got lost amongst
a row of other better designed logos, as it scaled down very poorly, and when
scaled to a small size the name of the organisation could not be easily read.
Gone are the days when the logo would only be seen on a closed distribution
magazine, a journal, a letterhead, or scaled up on the side of a van. Now the
logo needs to work on the AA website and others, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn,
YouTube, Instagram AND letterheads, magazines, the journal and the side of a
van.

Cheers

Alastair

Alastair,
" All of those on the Board of Trustees are members, voted in by members -
surely that’s how members get their say?"

I had to re-read your post a couple of times because I thought you were
taking the..... And yes it's really handy for members to just pop in to AA
HQ and sit in on Trustees meetings. What is even easier is to keep people
updated and informed using the electronic updates AA regularly send out. Jon
said AA were looking to engage better with the public, you might also want to
look closer to home as well. I am not sure why it says on the AA facebook
page that the majority wanted a new logo. How do you know if you haven't ask.

Some would say this shows contempt for the members and the AA is run by a
clique.

I don’t know enough to argue otherwise.

Hi Elton

The AA is often looking for motivated and committed members to join its
various committees. In 2016 it will be a priority of the AA's Media &
Communications Committee to seek to better engage with local authority tree
officers. For my sins I am Chair of M & C this year and you are more than
welcome to come along and see how significant changes such as the logo design
are realised.

All of those on the Board of Trustees are members, voted in by members -
surely that’s how members get their say?

In a sense why does it matter what it looks like, the run of the mill
membership can't use it anyhow!

Jonathan

Jonathan,
Yes, your right, why give these run of the mill types the opportunity as
members to express their views!
