Survival rates of trees planted in engineered pits

So I'm dealing with a client who has paid for lots of trees to be planted
in engineered tree pits with good soil, good quality semi-mature trees
planted etc. But after 5 years a number of the trees have died. Should we
expect a 100% survival rate? If not are there any studies that could help
identify what would be a reasonable rate of loss?
