Ron,
I agree I am always somewhat dubious about generic data hence the
original question and one has to ask well Hawthorn is classed as a High
demand species and Cotoneaster is in the same family and the majority are
evergreen, I think the effect of shrubs is generally under estimated. I did
speak to Martin Dobson and he was of the opinion that Cotoneaster should in
this case be classed as High Water demand, Giles Biddle gives an example in
his book of Wisteria causing a problem in a particular situation.

Hi Will,

I seriously doubt you'll get figures on those shrub species so you'll have to
tepidly pin your views on the family ... Rosaeceae. I respond because I have
just been looking at a damaged garage wall with a Pine next to it and, loads
of Cotoneaster and a Buddleia, and I said, hang on a minute, those shrubs
have enough power to lift a wall!

Subject: Water Demand of Cotoneaster

Hi,

Does anyone have an idea of water demand for a cotoneaster, I am working
from a third party report and the engineer is requesting further detail, the
estimated height was 8m so I presume it was one of the large shrub/tree type
such as waterii, also they have asked for the water demand of Pittosporum
which I can't find. Any help would be welcome.

Will
