Hi All,

As I understand it ITree Design gives a projected estimation of benefits
provided by a newly planted tree/trees over a finite period.

It is not designed to estimate a replacement value.

Cheers,

Leigh

Hello Tom,
I'm a little inebriated, Christmas began today in our house, however.
IIRC CAVAT and CTLA are essentially the same; the latter uses a nonlinear
depreciation function to limit the higher values but they are both
diminished replacement value systems. iTree valuations contain an element
of ecosystem services but the majority of the valuation is either CTLA or
CAVAT.
Helliwell is something else and I never did get my head around where the
base value came from. However as of the last time I looked, several years
ago, it is the only method accepted in the UK courts. Though I think CTLA
had some oblique success, but the details escape me.
There are several other systems at large in Europe, Rodney used to cover
them but I forget the details.
I expect someone will correct my misapprehensions directly.
Dom

Someone with more knowledge/experience may correct me but 4 main ones
  I
  referred to are;

Helliwell; A method of calculating the amenity value of tree(s) or
  woodlands
CTLA: I am sure you are aware of this as it is the US system used in
  the UK
for some disputes/court cases. It is the calculated replacement cost
  based
  on the cross sectional area.
CAVAT: Based on the same cross sectional area calculation and it is
primarily used for building damage/subsidence cases, although it is
  used
for other scenarios where trees are threatened.
iTree: The new approach, calculating the economic value of some of
  the
environmental benefits that tees afford us. Several local authorities
  have
undertaken this approach, and it is becoming more popular.

What other systems are there in the US currently.

  Sincerely Tom
