Hi Guys,

It has been a few years since I last posted and hope all are well.

We have an interesting case regarding Gleditsia triacanthos which I would
like to share with the collective.

Several trees of the above where planted approximately 30 years old in a
precinct, these have grown within cast iron grates and steel cages.
They have enveloped the collar at the steel cage base. The cage has been cut
away leaving the lower steel brace at the tree base.
The tree has reacted to this by Contact Stress Response. It cannot be removed.

Question: will the tree survive the girdling caused by the collar, or will it
fail?

Picture below of same tree before we became involved and cage removed.
