Hi David,

‘Incidentally, I have dealt with loads of these this year and I am just about
to specify an automated watering system as an alternative to tree removal
where just one small brick built porch is slightly affected. It will be the
first such system that I have designed so this one might be interesting.’

That sounds like a reasonable and sensible approach especially if retaining
high cavat value trees.
Though as someone mentioned a hose pipe ban so would have to be accepted as
an exceptional circumstance by the utility providing the water.
And would guess if you strategically placed the dripping irrigation system at
a distance so as to keep viable root/water uptake at opposite ends of the
suspected subs damage then this might be seen to improve the circumstance
which led to the claim. Keep us posted.
