Hi Bettina,
Thelwell was an excellent draughtsman - his images of elms from the
days before DED are especially striking, reminding us of the countryside as
it was before the epidemic.......

Subject: Friday afternoon random - Thelwell Country pic query

Hello all,
glancing through my copy of 'Thelwell Country' (1964) I noticed that Norman
Thelwell does some very good drawings of trees in the countryside etc.

This one in particular caught my eye on p23 of the book, and shows a rather
lovely looking Cedar in front of a mansion house (if the attached scan has
come through OK that is).

Does anyone know where this house is? And if so, is the Cedar tree still
there?

The little sign at the foot of the steps says ' National Coal Board Area
Office'.

many thanks
Bettina
