I thought it needed some exposed heartwood, but now I come to think of it I
don't know why I think that. I've certainly seen trees that have been
infected for many years without actually failing Jon. I'm also fairly sure
I've seen trees infected while companions haven't been.

How does this fungus spread to a new host? In other words, if I see one
lime with the fruiting bodies should I expect to see it in neighbours as a
consequence of root contact for example?
