Love the scientific name: Euwallacea fornicatus (The spell checker keeps
changing the U for an E)

Good resource linked above. Although it identifies the source as a
botanical garden, it doesn't say how the beetle got there. It appears that
Oak and London Plane are hotels of choice for the little darlings. Also Box
Elder which makes me think that Sycamore will be similarly favoured. Here's
hoping it doesn't reach these shores.

The article in The Times stated that Polyphagous has much less impact
where it comes from in SE Asia because the trees there have adapted and
become more resistant to the fungus carried by the insect. In spite of
clear advice that we should be working towards a more diverse urban tree
population to increase resilience to pests and diseases, it seems that
little is done in practice and much (most?) of our new nursery stock is
clonally produced and remains highly vulnerable to new or genetically
mutated diseases. In other countries urban foresters publish diversity
targets for their tree populations, but here, not so much.
