Good morning Peter

Thanks for that.

I'll get a fresh shoot and cone sample on Monday and hopefully key it out a
bit more successfully to confirm P. strobus.

Thanks to all who contributed suggestions and observations. :-)

As others have already suggested - P. strobus. It is also the most common
5-needle species in the UK and quite a few nurseries sell it as semi-mature
in size.

Oh is it a kink on the needle then? Must admit that I'm a little rusty on
Pinus identification

I've never noticed a twist on our Armandii, but there are supposed to be
two different types; one hard shelled (we have these) and another whose
shell can be cracked between finger tips (which I'd love to have).

A very tasty nut, but just too hard to crack. One day my gerardiana
might bear cones that would be pretty fantastic.

Do the needles have a slight twist to them? Armandii tend to from memory?
I had thought Bishop pine, but cones are too long maybe?
