Just guess at it Graham, you're unlikely to be far out. And greater
accuracy than a generous estimate is unlikely to be needed.

Hi

If the level of accuracy is not a high priority and the trees are not too
big you could try a normal carpenters tape? I use one in forestry surveys
for a quick idea of diameter.
Failing that try Sorbus international or Buxtons for calipers. Prices range
from £60 upwards depending on size. Or go for the high end pairs with gator
eyes which use 2 green lasers to determine diameter. Price for these are
about £800 though I think?

Dear all

having spent another brambly afternoon on a wet Devon bank failing to
retrieve the loose end of a diameter tape, I’m wondering if there’s an
easier way. Has anyone out there tried using forestry callipers to
measure
dbh? If so has anyone got any suggestions as to a useful make? I realise
it’s not as accurate as a diameter tape, but times and places...

Thanks
