The answer depends upon the product and its usefulness depends upon some
basics of physics and biophysics. What cannot be recovered from the
granules if is is held tighter by the granules than the pull of the roots.
Basics of osmotic potential for diffusion.

Would anyone care to update me on water-retention granules? I got a sample
at a trade show many years ago, but never tried them.

How long do they last? Do they break down, and if so, into what compounds?

Are they cost-effective on large-scale projects?

Pros and cons?

Many thanks,
Wayne
