I've seen this [recently] on dead bark on MC and assumed it was saprophytic

Any one know what this fungus could be?

White resupinate fruiting bodies on bark at base of Monterey Cypress. Tree
in good health. Inner bark tissues under fruiting bodies also appears to be
healthy and unaffected.

I anticipate that it is relatively benign but would like to be sure.

As an aside, did you know that Cupressus macrocarpa is now called
Hesperocyparis macrocarpa? I wish the taxonomists would stop doing that.
