Tom and Forum:

Agreed, agreed!

I noticed one tree leaning away from the severed roots, the ones in
tension--but in the absence of the matrix, resistance is minimal. As to
admitting liability, if they don't act proactively, they will (or should
be) liable. Unfortunately, we (in the US) have some tree professionals who
will write bogus reports to protect the hand that feeds them (and is a rich
source for future contracts). Does the UK suffer under a similar
phenomenon?

The practice was poor, the notification and consultation seemed none
existent.

I have not seen the damage but would assume the trees have been
compromised, so I would hope for some notification of the potential hazard
but that would be admitting liability.

The media response was poor too. Not much about the whole situation was
undertaken well.

Agreed, Tom. Did you notice any particular caution signals in the photos?

A very poor show all round.

Most disappointing is that they are looking at this as "an isolated
incident" rather than taking it as a wake-up call to review their
practices.
