Hi Paul -
Not aware of disease and I strongly suspect frost as the culprit. The May frosts have caused havoc with lots of my non-native trees - image attached of my Black walnut. Round here even the bracken was cut back by frost, which is not something I've seen all that often.
Ne'er cast a clout 'til May is out, as they say!

All the best
Jerry

Hello hive mind,

Last summer I noticed a number of common walnut trees with blackened leaves and
dieback throughout the crowns. In some cases the pith had been hollowed out near the
tips. I didn’t work out what had caused it then.

This year I’m also seeing dead black tips, but it looks very like frost
damage. See attached photo.

Is anyone aware of a particular pest or disease that would do this, or is it
simply frost? There were a couple of cold nights last week...

Kind regards,

Paul Barton
