I seem to recall your extensive scientific research on wine Simon - wasn't it
to do with Rioja on one or two Greek islands?

I've found yew stems like that growing out of the top of a very long
neglected yew hedge, effectively pollard stems.

In Tudor times there was a law that every barrel of wine imported had to
be accompanied by a number of bow staves.  I don't know numbers but I
seem to recall Henry's annual wine bill being £3,000 at the time which
would be something colossal in current figures. The arms race is nothing new
