Following another post where someone had removed Ivy from the base of a sycamore to uncover a fungal infection I decided it would be prudent to do the same with the still living oaks in this run and I found some fungal fruiting bodies at the base of one of them. The tree is the largest of the five and looks like it must have suffered a lightning strike or other serious damage several decades ago as most of the branches sprout off at funny angles (nothing worrying, just unusual) from where big limbs have disappeared. The trunk is hollow but the tree looks very healthy. I haven't measured it but I guess at chest height it's probably 3 ft in diameter.
