The effect of climate / minor vegetation is often uniform round the building and, in the absence of any distortion, isn't noticed or doesn't cause any concern.  The building might be moving but unless its being damaged there is no claim.  Where nearby trees are having an effect the shrinkage is more localised so the building distorts, cracks appear and there's a claim.  Level monitoring oftens shows this, even with a deep datum there is usually a few millimetres movement at most points and often 10 - 30mm or more at the affected area.
