We have used chicken mesh to deter canines, from a distance this could appear
cloth like.
Copper weaved material attached to voltage to prevent gnaw damage from
browsers/tree access??
Material soaked in some nasty tasting chemical to equally deter
animal/insects??

They do have some massive goats in Cheshire....:-)

They are clearly trying to look after the tree with the mulch and its looking
to me to be a beech. My best guess is its to prevent squirrels, but not sure
if stockings would work? I don't have a lot of experience here, but perhaps
their little claws might get entangled?

Interesting one....

Dave

Hi all,

A colleague has forwarded the attached image of an oak in Grosvenor Estate at
Eaton in Cheshire.

They're curious as to why the trunk has been dressed with a stocking. So am I.

An ideas?

Jonathan
