Many years ago Southern Tree Surgeons got us to do some work there. So
probably the people to ask are Bartletts, assuming they're still involved
of course. I'm assuming it's Eaton Hall, the duke of Grosvenor's gaff.

Why not email them and ask what they’re for?

Copper weaved material attached to voltage to prevent gnaw damage from

Material soaked in some nasty tasting chemical to equally deter

They do have some massive goats in Cheshire....:-)

They are clearly trying to look after the tree with the mulch and its
looking to me to be a beech. My best guess is its to prevent squirrels, but
not sure if stockings would work? I don't have a lot of experience here,
but perhaps their little claws might get entangled?

Interesting one....

Dave

Hi all,

A colleague has forwarded the attached image of an oak in Grosvenor
Estate at Eaton in Cheshire.

They're curious as to why the trunk has been dressed with a stocking. So
am I.

An ideas?

Jonathan
