According to Scott Leathhart's brilliant book 'Whence our Trees' the first 
known Robinia planted by Jean Robin's son, arborist to King Louis XII in the 
Jardins des Plantes in 1635 was up until around 1990 still producing live 
shoots from its stump.

     Anyone got an idea of what age Robinia get too, I've one with a 700mm 
diam , rather difficult to judge approx age as its rather battered
