Thanks very much, I did see when the tree was introduced to the Uk but ages were a 
bit sketchy, I would guess the one I've seen is between 70/100 years going by by the 
other larger tree in the garden, I don’t think it will compare with the 
French one, just looked up the book so will order a copy.

According to Scott Leathhart's brilliant book 'Whence our Trees' the first 
known Robinia planted by Jean Robin's son, arborist to King Louis XII in the 
Jardins des Plantes in 1635 was up until around 1990 still producing live 
shoots from its stump.

rather difficult to judge approx age as its rather battered
