Fortunately, most of the just-been-burgled jobs we've done involved the
removal of fairly nondescript small-garden-conifers, so it's never been a
bone of contention particularly. I have to say that in Alastair's case
removing the whole tree sounds very much over-the-top. The miscreants being
seen by neighbours appears to be the objective so seeing under the canopy
ought to be a reasonable deterrent.

Nice one Bill,

It’s a horrid thing when one viewpoint becomes the only consideration. And
the terrible thing is, it seems to be so right when one person from one
point of view with lots of 'power' behind their name gets to make the big
comment.

All of a sudden, when differing views come from differing points, then we
get that warm glow of 'this isn't as easy as it first appears' which keep
us as good reasoning people.

In our society, certainly of opinion is quite dangerous in my opinion.

Cheers
Dave

If they want people to pay attention to them surely they should be
free.....

As it happens, I was involved with a ludicrous case where the local
constabulary's "Architectural Liaison Officer" wanted the back gardens of a
number of properties to have no access. Presumably if there were no garden
gates then the local ne'er-do-wells wouldn't be able to access said
properties for whatever misdemeanours they might seek to commit. I was
obliged to point out that as the said gardens would contain a number of
protected trees then when the time came for tree works, all the equipment
that might be needed would have to be carried through the houses, and
furthermore, all the debris would have to be removed through the properties
as well.

I've also lost count of the number of times I've been asked to remove
trees because the Police have reasoned that trees provided cover for the
breaking and entering fraternity. I've usually been asked to do this
immediately after a burglary has been committed.

Trees and crime prevention might be a bit tricky.

Bill.
