We have many commercial olive growers locally in Central Otago (lower portion
of the South Island, NZ), it’s a largely alpine environment, snow, freezing
winter temperatures and very hot, dry summer conditions, olives appear to
thrive here. However, crossing over to another current UKTC thread, I
struggle to get a fig tree to successfully establish........will try burying
it in autumn!

All the best, Tim

Hi Will we have two Olive trees planted out with a south facing wall to their
rear here in Edinburgh and they have been in the ground for 5yrs and came
through -12c last year with no problems.

Hope that helps

Best wishes Martyn

All,

Anyone have experience of young olive trees being grown in the ground in
this country ? had someone contact me re a number dying and people getting
rather excited etc re replacements etc, not surprised they died. As far as
I'm concerned unless they're in a GH or sunny courtyard poor things would
find life a bit hard also risk of Xylella.

Will
