I prefer principle to method. Context is important. No, *vital*.

I made big mistakes (including overseeding) for at least fifteen years
before catching on . . . On my last project before the first successful one
(1972), one species suppressed most of the others and caused a major
collapse of the system. The best lessons are the worst mistakes.
