Well now,

A brief glance at the goggle road-look shows what looks like some
historic crappy build/design and many later additions of extensions,
porches and the like...

Plus, there's coal mines under them thar hills, so, trees aside,
whaddya gonna expect...?

But uneven pavements from root growth...? I blame the trees and
typically crappy forethought as to the inevitable outcome.

Subsidence cases in the area are very rare.

I'd be more inclined to say that damage to buildings is more to do with
building design, perhaps the trees having a slight influence.

Plenty of earthquakes around here also from collapsing mines!
